For the Record

Lance and I are loving this.....

Ryland is such a good baby. We are having so much fun with him. We have been home since Sunday and it has been so nice to be home. 

For the Record.....

Friday March 13th, 2009

7:15 am- Lance and I arrived at the Hospital

7:30 to 8:40 am- We were checked into our room and answered all the questions they had.

8:40 to 9:00 am- The nurse we had tried 2 times to get my iv in......Tried is the key word, no iv from her.

(The unwritten rule in hospitals is if you don't get the iv in on the second try, you have to call another nurse to try)

9:00 to 9:20 am- 2nd nurse comes in to TRY and put my iv in.....once again Try is the key word. Still no iv.

9:20 to 10:00 am- They call the anesthesiologist, we wait for him to come. He TRIED 2 times, and still no iv. We had pretty much run out of people to TRY and put this in so the anesthesiologist tried 1 more time, and thanks goodness they finally got it!! So that took way longer than it should have and I was lucky enough to get poked with a needle 7 times before they were able to get it in! Crazy veins just didn't want to cooperate. 

10:00 am- Finally hooked up to an iv, they run the pitocin to induce labor. I was feeling good and Lance and I were settled in for what we thought was going to be a long afternoon. At this point I was only dilated to a 3.

12:00 pm- The doctor came to see how things were going. I was dilated to a 4, and he decided to break my water. He said I would probably dilate about a centimeter an hour so we were planning on having the baby around 6 or so that night.

12:10 pm to 12:30 pm- Wanted to die from the contractions that got 100 times worse once the doctor broke my water. They were basically on top of each other for that whole time. Felt like a wimp for already asking for an epidural, but man that was painful! 

12:30 pm- Hello to the anesthesiologist again. It only took him 1 time to get the epidural in, thank goodness! :) That was heaven too!! I thought I was going to die and in a matter of about 2 minutes, all the pain is gone. Amazing!

1:15 pm- Nurse came in. Ryland's heart rate was dropping rather low and she needed to figure out what was going on. Turned me to the other side, that made things worse for him. So turned back on the side I was on before. Heart rate had dropped to around 80 bpm (should be around 120-160). Nurse gave me a shot in my arm (Thank you for the 8th poke with a needle) that stopped all of my contractions completely. Babys heart rate once again was stable and they were able to turn the pitocin back on to get contractions going again. 

1:30 pm- Nurse checks me and I am dilated to a 8. She hurried and called the doctor. 

2:00 pm- Doctor gets there, checks me again and I am complete and ready to push. That was a shock. Mentally Lance and I were preparing ourselves for it being a lot longer than that, but hey we were fine that it didn't last that long!

2:27 pm to 4:03 pm- Pushing. Tough work!

4:03 pm- Ryland was born! 

It was an amazing experience and thankfully not very painful at all. Probably the most painful part was trying to get the iv in. We were so glad we got to experience this together. No words can describe the emotion and feelings felt during this process. We are so happy to have Ryland here, we love him so much!
